Understanding Your Credit Score.

Understanding Your Credit Score

The first thing you need to know about your credit score is that you don’t have one credit score: you have many, and they change all the time.

Credit scores are designed to be a snapshot of your credit picture- typically, the picture that’s contained in your credit report. New information is constantly being added to your report, and old information is being deleted. Those changes affect your score.

Because of this, maintaining your credit can sometimes seem be hard work. If you have a bad score now, you’re not stuck with it forever. You can do a lot to improve your situation and make yourself more credit-worthy in lender’s eyes. When you have a good score, you need to constantly monitor your credit to make sure it stays that way. There are five parts to the FICO Credit Scoring System:

Your payment history (about 35% of a FICO score)

Have you paid your credit accounts on time? Late payments, bankruptcies and other negative items can hurt your credit score. But a rock solid record of on-time payments helps your score.

How much you owe (about 30% of a FICO score)

FICO scores look at the amounts you owe on all your accounts, the number of accounts with balances, and how much of your available credit you are using. The more you owe compared to your credit limit, the lower your score will be.

Length of credit history (about15% of a FICO score)

A longer credit history will increase your score. However, you can get a high score with a short credit history if the rest of your credit report shows responsible credit management.

New credit (about 10% of a FICO score)

If you have recently applied for or opened new credit accounts, your credit score will weigh this fact against the rest of your credit history. FICO scores distinguish between a search for a single loan and a search for many new credit lines, in part by the length of time over which inquiries occur. If you need a loan, do your rate shopping within a focused period of time, such as 30 days, to avoid lowering your FICO score.

Other factors (about 10% of a FICO score)

Several minor factors can also influence your score. For example, having a mix of credit types on your credit report – credit cards, installment loans such as a mortgage or loan, and personal lines of credit – is normal for people with longer credit histories and can add slightly to their scores.

FICO scores range from 300-850, and most people score in the 600’s and 700’s (higher FICO scores are better). Lenders buy your FICO score from three national credit reporting agencies (also called credit bureaus): Equifax, Experian and Trans Union. In the eyes of most lenders, FICO credit scores above 700 are very good and a sign of good financial health. FICO scores below 600 indicate high risk to lenders and could lead lenders to charge you much higher rates or turn down your credit application. The FICO score has different names at the three major credit bureaus.

Repairing your Credit

Anyone who has errors or negative information on their credit report can repair their own credit! However, you will need to be persistent and determined to make true progress! This process takes patience as working with the credit bureaus can be frustrating. The steps to repair your own credit are as follows:

Get your credit report

Review and list all negative items found on your report

Gather your documentation

Write dispute letters

Mail letters to credit bureaus

Document everything you do

Wait for response from Credit Bureaus

Review the results of your efforts

Repeat the process as needed

Step One: To begin this process you will need to get a copy of your credit report from each of the three major credit-reporting agencies.

Experian
www.experian.com

Equifax
www.equifax.com

TransUnion
www.transunion.com

Step Two: Once you get your report(s) you will need to analyze the information. Look for all negative listings. Negative listings include the following: Bankruptcy, Foreclosure, Repossession, Charge Off, Court Judgments, Collections, Past due payments, Late Payments. When looking for these listings keep in mind anything else that might not look good. Imagine you are a lender reviewing this report to consider for a loan. What else do you see that might be construed as negative?

Step Three: The step is to gather all the documentation you have regarding each item you plan to dispute. For example on a late payment, get your cancelled checks from the bank and see when the check cleared. Was it late? If not you have proof you are now going to include with your dispute. If it was late don’t worry you can still dispute

Step Four: Step four of this process is to write your dispute letters. You will need to write a letter to each credit bureau separately and include all the items you are disputing with that bureau.

Note – For each letter include the following information:

Date

Your Full Name

Your Social Security Number

Date Of Birth

Your Current Address and Phone Number

Your Signature

Full Name of Items you are Disputing

Account Numbers for the Items you are Disputing

Reasons for the Dispute of Each Item

Copies of Any Documentation Supporting Your Disputes

Step Five: Once you write your dispute letters you will need to mail them to the corresponding credit bureaus. Use the addresses from step # 1 to contact the three major credit-reporting bureaus.

Make sure you mail each one certified mail so you have proof you sent these disputes.

Note – Make sure you make copies of everything you send to them.

Step Six: Keep records of everything you do. Every phone call you make get names, phone numbers, extensions, date, and time.

REMEMBER keep copies of everything. You will be very happy to have this information when you start getting the run around!

Step Seven: Step seven of this process is to wait for a response from the credit bureaus. They have 30 days by law to respond to you. If you don’t here from them within this time send a second notice to find out what is going on.

Remember you have proof you mailed the dispute letter because you sent it certified.

Step Eight: Once you do get a response, compare it to your requests. If a change was made to your credit report the bureau will include an updated copy of your credit report. Is the change to your satisfaction? Did you get what you asked for? Or was nothing changed? If you got everything you asked for, great you’re done! If not, move on to step nine.

Step Nine: If you didn’t get everything you asked for challenge the verification, the credit reporting agency will likely state that your request was investigated and verified.

The credit reporting agency will have never contacted the original creditor, but will have relied on a third party database to verify, which they may or may not admit to you.

Contact the credit reporting agency by registered mail and tell them the original creditor has no records therefore your account should be deleted. Though you may be trustworthy the credit reporting agency will need to see the letter from the original creditor.

If the credit-reporting agency refuses, inform them you will sue for willful non-compliance under section FCRA § 616. Send the information via certified mail along with intent to sue letter. If not, they will give you a new confirmation number (write it down and the date). This acts as a new investigation, and the credit reporting agency has 30 days to get back to you.

I first ate fettuccine similar to this at Nick’s, a wonderful little Swiss-Italian restaurant on the Atherton Tablelands. As I have a serious love for anything spinach I promptly decide to try and recreate the flavours of the dish so I could eat it at home too. It has since become one of our favourite pasta dishes and a staple in my kitchen. Thanks Nick!!

Preparation time: 35mins
Serves 4

250g (8 oz) Fettuccine

1 tbs olive oil or butter

1 fresh red chilli, diced (or 1 tsp diced bottled chilli)

2 cloves garlic, diced

6 large flat mushrooms, sliced

1 cup low fat evaporated milk or non-dairy milk

1 large bunch of fresh spinach, roughly chopped (you can use frozen spinach if fresh is unavailable)

½ fresh grated vegetarian parmesan cheese

¼ cup fresh chopped parsley

5-6 semi-dried tomatoes, diced

Cook the pasta in rapidly boiling water to the packet instructions; strain and rinse. Set aside. Heat about 1 tbs of olive oil or butter in a large heavy based pan; add the chilli and garlic and cook until soft and fragrant. Add the mushrooms and cook until soft and beautifully brown, about 3-4 minutes.

Season with ground sea salt and freshly cracked pepper; toss well. Reduce heat and add the evaporated milk; slowly stir over low heat until liquid has reduced by about ¾; should take around 5 minutes. Add the fettuccine, spinach, parmesan, parsley and semi-dried tomatoes. Toss well until spinach is wilted and fettuccine is well mixed through; season to taste. Served topped with a little extra parsley and fresh cracked pepper; great with crusty bread or on its own.

Variations: I also do a similar version omitting the mushrooms and semi-dried tomato but top the pasta with a fried free-range egg to serve. Yum!!

Ginger Chicken Noodle Soup

Chicken noodle soup, as we all know, is THE classic comfort food. Warming the body and soul on chilly days, soothing the aches and pains on sick days, and a mother’s best friend on picky-eater days. I freely admit that I have a fondness for Campbell’s, straight from the tin and zapped in the microwave. It’s an uncomplicated soup that reminds me of less complicated days. But when I am feeling a little more grown-up but still craving chicken noodle soup, I dress up a homemade version with fresh ginger and scallions. This Asian inspired soup is not only easy to prepare and low in fat, it tastes just as mmm mmm good as my beloved Campbell’s.

GINGER CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP
Serves 4 very generously

2 small boneless, skinless chicken breasts

5 whole black peppercorns OR Szechuan peppercorns

2 nickel sized slices of ginger AND 1 tablespoon minced ginger

1 garlic clove, crushed AND 2 garlic cloves, minced

4 scallions, chopped

1/2 cup bamboo shoots

1 tablespoon soy sauce

12 ounces of your favorite dried Chinese egg noodles

8 cups of low sodium chicken broth

Place chicken, peppercorns, slices of ginger and crushed garlic in a small saute pan with high sides. Add enough cold water to just cover the chicken. Place over medium heat and bring to a simmer. Poach chicken until cooked through and no longer pink in the center, about 10-12 minutes. Turn the chicken over halfway through the cooking time.

Discard the poaching liquid and spices. Chop chicken into small, bite size pieces. In a large soup pot, bring broth and remaining ginger and garlic to a boil. Cook egg noodles in boiling broth according to package directions.

One minute before noodles are finished cooking, add chicken, scallions and bamboo shoots to the soup. Stir gently to distribute chicken and vegetables throughout the pot.

Remove from heat and sprinkle with the soy sauce. Serve immediately.

Dating a Vegetarian isn't as bad as it seems.

So you’ve found a potential match. You like the same music, you get each other’s humor, like the same movies, both like to travel and take long walks on the beach.

Everything looks great and you’re heart jumps a beat as you get ready for that first date. You make your way to the restaurant to enjoy an intimate dinner when out of nowhere your date drops the big “V” bomb. They’re a vegetarian or worse… a vegan.

So is it a deal breaker? It’s not like they smoke cigarettes and you have asthma. But let’s face it, you’re a carnivore and that’s simply something you’re not willing to change. You start to wonder…What’s next? Tree hugging? Will you be subjected to countless, painful hours of yoga classes? Your heart drops and the excitement quickly fades…

But don’t give up just yet. One important thing you need to know is that not all vegans and vegetarians are trying to change the world. Many of us simply make this a personal lifestyle choice to suit our own personal health goals and don’t try to force dietary restrictions upon those included in our lives.

The good news is this is a pretty low hurdle to jump and compromise is easily attainable. The first thing to remember is that most restaurants offer vegan and vegetarian options. Even if you end up at a steak house, there are usually several side dishes one can choose from that when combined, can make a complete and delicious vegetarian (or meat free) meal.

When it comes to selecting restaurants, most of us dine out in a limited circle, meaning we have our favorite spots we like to revisit. Finding these places together can be a great first step in building a relationship. Take the time to check out menus online together and finding places that suit both of your needs and give them a try. Once you’ve discovered five or six places, stick to them. This way you build a circle of places that become special for both of you. Just remember to be honest. Make sure you both like the places and make them meaningful for both of you.

What about eating at home? Don’t let this intimidate you either. Overall it’s fairly easy and can be another great way to share some quality time. You can learn how to accommodate each other without giving up the foods you love. If you’re cooking, ask the vegetarian to join you in the kitchen. Uncork a bottle of wine and cook together. Chances are most vegetarians know how to make meat free alternatives to just about any dish you’d want to prepare. You may be surprised, but nine times out of ten I eat the same thing as my partner, just a vegan variation, and it’s not difficult to do.

So when it comes to dating a vegan or vegetarian, the key is to conquer and not let it divide. Just go for it!

Cheap one-way flights are great for open-ended travel and for people who do not need to return anytime soon (for instance, if you are moving cross-country).

Travelers who want a trip to Europe and still have a flexible schedule use one-way flights to maximize their options. But historically, one-way fares have been far more expensive per mile than round trip travel. While that is still true with some routes flown by legacy airlines like American and United/Continental, there are enough exceptions that finding cheap one-way flights is easier than ever…

The Five Things You Should Know to Find Cheap Airfares

Tips for Finding Cheap One-Way Fares

Start looking for cheap tickets three to four months before departure. FareCompare‘s flight search engine is a terrific resource for this, and it allows searches for one-way flights. Tuesday afternoons are excellent times to book tickets because airlines will have had time to match off the fare sales that typically begin Monday evening.

Generally, you will have the best luck with discount airlines such as JetBlue and Southwest – airlines that price tickets based on each segment. However, on particularly competitive routes, legacy carriers sometimes match – or even beat – discount airlines’ fares, even on one-way tickets.

Cheapest Days to Fly and Best Time to Buy Airline Tickets

Beware of using “throwaway ticketing.” This is the practice of buying a cheap round-trip ticket, but then “forgetting” to come back. It is against airline rules, and if the airlines catch you, they can charge you for the more expensive one-way ticket or confiscate your unused flight coupons. Yes, people do this, but it can cost you if you are caught.

With flights to Europe, sites like Europe by Air offer flexible visitor tickets at a flat rate for use during a 120-day time period. Another option for travelers to Europe is to try Aer Lingus. This Irish airline sells fairly cheap one-way tickets between the U.S. and Ireland. This allows you to use Ireland as your gateway and arrange your European itinerary from there.

The Cheapest Time of Year to Fly: During “Dead Zones”

Finding One-Way Fare Sales

On many airline websites, you can sign up to be notified of fare sales. One example is Southwest Airlines’ “Click and Save” weekly emails. Following airlines’ Twitter feeds is another good option. For example, JetBlue posts its “Cheeps” deals on Twitter every Tuesday. Many airlines use their Facebook pages to announce fare sales, so it’s a good idea to “Like” airline pages so you won’t miss out. Finally, signing up for FareCompare‘s air fare alerts will ensure you don’t miss out on great sales or last-minute fares.

Frequent travelers expect the usual hassles at the airport that come with booking cheap flights.

Frequent travelers expect the usual hassles at the airport that come with booking cheap flights. But, surprisingly, airlines are starting to make overtures to their disgruntled passengers.

Airlines Offer Free Flights to Disgruntled Passengers

For example, after flooding in Bangkok, Thailand, U.S. airlines that fly there waived their ticket change fees for their Bangkok passengers. The recent labor dispute that shut down Australia’s Qantas Airline resulted in free tickets for disgruntled passengers, and JetBlue passengers stuck on the tarmac after a recent early snowstorm in the northeast were offered similar compensation. These incidents show that airlines are being slightly more pro-consumer these days, in hopes of counteracting bad press and making passengers happy…

Bad Weather Flight Delays and Cancelled Flights – What to Do Next?

Recent Qantas and JetBlue Problems

Qantas‘ fleet was grounded for two days in October during a dispute with unions, and 80,000 stranded passengers were furious. But Qantas is compensating stranded passengers by giving them each a free round-trip economy class ticket within Australia and New Zealand. JetBlue refunded passengers that were stranded on the tarmac in Connecticut for up to eight hours, after a surprise snowstorm in late October. Customers were also promised a round-trip voucher for future use, but regulations don’t require airlines to compensate passengers for similar situations.

DOT Rules on Stranded Passengers

In 2010, the U.S. Department of Transportation implemented rules imposing fines on airlines of $27,000 per passenger when they held passengers on idling jets for more than three hours. Though the rule at first only applied to domestic flights, international airlines are now also subject to the fines. The effect of the rule has been airlines that are more likely to cancel a flight rather than risk stranding passengers on the runway and facing these steep fines. So while you are less likely to end up trapped on the tarmac, you are more likely to face a cancellation.
Making Overbooked Flights Work in Your Favor

How Passengers can Prepare

With airlines taking a more preemptive approach when they face the possibility of dangerous weather, FareCompare readers must be proactive to maximize the chances of reaching their destination on time. This winter, if you face a weather threat, call your airline or check their website before going to the airport. Have their customer service numbers programmed into your phone and their reservation website bookmarked on your laptop or tablet so that if your flight is canceled once you are at the airport you can begin the re-booking process simultaneously through multiple interfaces. Simply getting in line at the gate when your flight is canceled lowers your chances of getting on the next available flight.
Flight Cancelled? 5 Tips to Get on the Next Flight

The Price Airlines Pay

The recent labor disruption cost Qantas around $71 million, and the free flights may cost up to $25 million. Qantas’ stock has fallen 4.2 percent since late October, compared to a 1.8 percent decline in the S&P stock index. Though JetBlue’s stock is down for the year, it has not suffered significantly since the New England snowstorm in October, perhaps because the weather problems were perceived as less preventable than Qantas’ labor dispute. But there’s little dispute that bad press can tarnish an airline’s image, counteracting some of the appeal of booking those cheap flights.

We’ve all seen this before in the gym, big strong upper body and small lower body.

We’ve all seen this before in the gym, big strong upper body and small lower body.

And the sight of it I must say is very alarming. It shows a huge disproportion. Many strive for what they believe is a complete body but most fall short because of what we allow to limit us; our genetic background. One thing we must note when developing a complete body is… balance is needed…

Two key things to look at:

Check to see if your upper body exceeds your lower body, and if your chest and shoulders exceeds your back (front to back proportion). Naturally your body will form its own look based on your genetics but this should NOT be a limiting factor. Focus on correcting these areas that are lagging by giving them more attention. For instance, if you are genetically tall and skinny (ectomorph), you are prone to have slim shoulders and high skinny calves. You need to really put extra emphasis on these areas for them to respond.

Also note:

A complete body does not mean that you have to be overly muscular or something you would see in a bodybuilding contest. Those are extremes and are often near impossible to look like year round. Most importantly make sure that everything is in its right proportion. Many men avoid squats due to the amount of energy it takes and not to mention the soreness one can gain from a difficult lower body workout. But let’s not forget that your lower body is your base and is very important to a strong physique. Also squats prove to release large amounts of testosterone which is great for overall building muscle. So passing on squats…NOT A GOOD THING!

The Back

Another area that gets little to no attention is the back. Most guys only focus on the muscles that are seen when looking straight on which is chest, biceps, shoulders, and triceps. Back muscles are often forgotten due to lack of compliments one typically receives. These muscles help you look equal from front to back or when standing in a profile position. They also help strengthen your rotator cuff which most serious lifters damage from too many pushing exercises involving shoulders, chest, and triceps.

So on your way to getting the complete body, take everything into consideration and remember a complete body is not built overnight. It takes time, preparation, persistence, and lots of hard work! But don’t let it intimidate you because a perfect body is not beyond your reach!

“I don’t wanna be too bulky, I put on muscle real quick” or “I don’t wanna look like those bodybuilder women”.

These are phrases women often use when asked about working their upper body. But let’s look at the facts first. Women don’t naturally produce enough testosterone for this to even take place and as for those bodybuilder women, most are using a supplement that decreases estrogen and increases tester one to allow that effect to happen. So let’s not allow this to discourage you from getting a tighter toned upper body. Also remember the more muscularly fit you are the lower your body fat percentage…

Women normally have problem areas that tend to hold more body fat than others such as: back, triceps(back of arm) and lower abs. Careful attention must be paid to these areas. When trying to tone your body you must also keep in mind that you also need to keep constant movement. You need to superset your exercises: meaning pick two exercises and perform one right after another until you reach 3 sets of both exercises. Now when it comes to abdominal, remember that women’s abs respond a lot slower than men. The focus should be on the contraction of the exercise rather than the number of reps. Focus on squeezing your abs through the whole motion of the exercise.

Also keep in mind that multiple joint exercise prove to involve more muscles at one time which is better for overall fitness.

Below is a sample workout to follow to erase those problem areas:

Workout- Perform 3 sets of 15-20 reps of each superset

Stability ball:

Great for working your core and also great for exercises that challenge your stability. This helps you have a more difficult workout without raising weights.

Medicine ball:

Easy to carry and tote. The medicine ball has many uses and you will more than likely only have to purchase one for a very long time.

Resistance Bands:

The provide excellent resistance to your workouts and are very different than the type of resistance you may get from a dumbbell or machine. They take a very long time to wear out and are very cheap.

I’ve never been much of a car person but this Rolls Royce Ghost 2011 has changed my mind.

Zero to 60 mph goes by in 4.7 seconds and if you keep your Allen Edmonds fully planted in the shearling wool carpeting, you’ll reach 120 mph in about 12 seconds. The eight-speed automatic transmission dispatches full-tilt gear changes with the barest perceptible flutter.

The Ghost in all ways is a more measured, more realistic car. It is, first of all, much smaller—17.7 feet in length (17.1 inches shorter), 76.7 inches abeam (down 1.6 inches), 61 inches high (down 3.3 inches) and weighing 5,445 pounds (down 353 pounds).

The 2011 Rolls-Royce Ghost is indeed an historic car: It’s the first small Rolls-Royce launched since the 1949 Silver Dawn. “Small” is a relative term, however. Though 17.1 inches shorter than a Phantom sedan, the 212.6-inch Ghost is still 4.3 inches longer than a Bentley Continental Flying Spur, and weighs a not insubstantial 5450 pounds. This is not a compact econo-Rolls.

The Ghost is fitted with a safety tour de force of airbags, traction and stability controls, even a grouping of cameras that channel a near-360 image of its surroundings for dent-free parking maneuvers. Night vision, a lane-departure warning system, active high-beam headlamps and cruise control are integrated as well.

This $200k+ automobile is worth the price and definitely has the swag. I test drove this amazing automobile and didn’t want to get out of it. It left me feeling accomplished.
