Riding to Greatness

Words by Naomi Valentin.

In Annapolis, MD there’s an extraordinary group of young guys that started a bike crew called ‘Savage Ryderz‘. What makes them unique from the typical bike crew is they’ve managed to start their own Big Brother Foundation for the kids in their community. I got a chance to interview ‘Ray Cash’, President of Savage Ryderz during a community fit day event.

Naomi Valentin: Tell me a little about yourself and your crew. What kind of bikes do you ride?

Ray Cash: My name is Ray aka “Ray Cash” and I am the President and Founder of Savage Ryderz. I am 23yrs old I was born and raised in Annapolis Md. I ride a 2007 Suzuki GSXR 1000. My brothers are: Dominic aka “Domino” SR Vice President, 24yrs old and rides a 2001 Yamaha R6; Orlando aka “Osmoov” SR Road Captain, 23yrs old and rides a 2002 Suzuki GSXR 750; Leonard aka “LB” SR Sgt-at-Arms, 27yrs old and rides a 2008 Honda CRB 600 and last but not least Mark aka ‘God Speed’, SR Public Relations Officer, 26yrs old rides a 2001 Buell X1-1200.

NV: How did you guys get started?

RC: The main reason we started our own club was to be different from everyone. We wanted to be leaders not followers. We are probably the youngest MC club out there.

NV: Why did you choose to go with the name Savage Ryderz? Is there a meaning behind it?

RC: We chose the name SAVAGE RYDERZ because we felt that it would be the best fit for us as a young motorcycle club. Some adults think of youth today as untamed, uncivilized, and rude – words that describe the word SAVAGE – but we are not. We’re strictly a positive and influential club.

NV: I love your logo. How did you come up with the concept?

RC: The concept of our logo of the skull/helmet was generated through many ideas. The first idea we wanted to be different. Most clubs go with a motorcycle for their logo, so that is where the helmet came into play. The second idea we wanted something that would look cool, something creative, and something that would draw people’s attention which represents the skull. Different backgrounds and personalities were key elements all mixed up in the final decision to put the skull with the helmet. Our logo represents: “No matter your background, heritage or personality; we are all brought together as one.”

NV: Tell me briefly about your past and present community events. Do you have any foundations or charities you donate to?

RC: We are big into doing positive things and helping others so we try to participate in as many charities and foundations as possible. The charities and foundations that we have donated to are: Team Jaylen Foundation, The Boys and Girls Club, and Muscular Dystrophy Associations (MDA). We recently started our very own foundation called, “Savage Ryderz Big Brother Foundation”. We want to help young people who are in need of a positive role model and point them to the right direction and teach them new and positive things in life while having fun. We will always give the kids a helping hand when they are in need of support.

I had the opportunity to meet these young men so that I could volunteer some of my time to help them out with there big brother program, and I got nothing but much respect and a very positive out look from each and everyone of them. It’s very seldom that we see young men at this age trying to stir our youth in the right direction.Lets all help them out in any way that we can because the children are our future not just theirs.Kudos to all the Savage Ryderz members.
