Why should you be selected and considered for ‘Model Watch’?
I know that there are so many girls out there who want to model. For me it’s a need. When I was 10 I knew that I wanted to model and from then on I have tried my hardest to pursue that dream and I refuse to give up until it becomes a reality. It’s not only my passion but it’s the only key to my happiness. I will never disappoint, I will never let you down, and I will always give you 110%.

What is your definition of humility?
In the books humility means modest and respectful. To me humility is being true to yourself. Never forget who you are and where you came from no matter how far you go in life.

Why should you be selected and considered for ‘Model Watch’?: I am not your typical everyday model. I love food, I love to laugh, I live and love. I’m Kate Moss‘s height if not a tad bit shorter and have a curvy  body like Crystal Renn. Its not something that you see everyday in the modeling world. I would love to be the next average height, curvy African-American model on the cover of OBVIOUS Magazine, Vogue, Allure Magazine and still deliver as if I was as tall like Heidi Klum.
What is your definition of humility?  Humility to me is when one is free from pride and arrogance. In other words, one can respond to and learn from criticism without defensiveness—whether it is deserved or not. Likewise if you are aware of your failures without being emotionally devastated.

Advice for Any Model Trying to Get to the Next Step in the Modeling Industry

Written by Jerris Madison on . Posted in Blog, Model Watch

Your dedication and commitment is #1 for securing agency representation and networking is the key to getting what you want in the modeling industry.

Over the past few days, I’ve received a lot of messages (random) via Facebook, Twitter, e-mail and text message about the modeling industry. I’ve decided to combine a few questions in this article. They are somewhat in relation to each other:

Special Events Greeters/Models Needed

Written by Jerris Madison on . Posted in Blog, Model Watch

The Daily Front Row, the only publication allowed to distribute inside the fashion tent, during the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week needs personable and outgoing interns/models to hand out our magazine during Fashion Week, Thursday, September 6th thru Thursday, September 13th, 2012.

We also have a few spots during ENK Coterie at the Jacob Javits Center, Wednesday September 19st thru Friday, September 21th.

In addition, there are a number of off-site locations at photo studios and retail locations for special events (venues to be determined).

Candidates must be flexible and willing to work both outside and inside the venue at Lincoln Center or Javits Center or an off-site location. Please keep in mind it IS September and you must be prepared to
work in whatever the weather brings.

You are required to wear all black. Acting as brand ambassadors, we ask you to pleasantly greet the attendees while handing out the Daily with a smile. It’s an opportunity for you to see and be seen and a chance to network within the industry. You never know who you may meet.

You will have mention by name on our website or in the last issue of the magazine! There’s a chance we may also post your picture. You will get a letter of recommendation for the work you do for The Daily Front Row if you work 6 or more shifts total over the month of September, which can count as course credit. (see your guidance counselor)

There are 3 shifts every day relating to Lincoln Center: Fashion Week September 9-16.
http://www.mbfashionweek.com/home
Shift #1 8:30-1:45
Shift #2 12:00-5:00
Shift #3 3:45-9:15
With access inside the tents during or after your shift assignment

There is 1 shift every day at Jacob Javits: Coterie September 19-21

Shift #1 8:30-3:15
With break for lunch and issued I.D. card with full access to the show floor

MODEL WATCH: HENRY WATKINS

Written by Derrius Pierre on . Posted in Blog, Model Watch

Philadelphia native, Henry Watkins has become one of the most recognized African-American male models in a short period of time.

Starting his modeling career shortly after high school, Henry was discovered by model agent George Brown after doing a shoot with photographer Joseph Bleu. Currently, Henry is signed to Red Model Management in New York City. He was notably known as one of the cast members of the short lived BET modeling show ‘Model City’.  While on the show, viewers got a glimpse of his passion and a drive to make it in the fashion and modeling industry.

In 2012,  Henry can be seen everywhere, from commercial print ads to most recent Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013 shows! Henry has a long and bright future ahead of him and I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of him soon.

MODEL CITIZEN

Written by Chadwick Washington on . Posted in Fitness, Model Watch

As a fitness model (print and editorial too); you need have a lean, tight, and toned body.

It is imperative to look above average because the camera and different camera angles can add pounds. Having a great model body is very attainable with conscious effort.

Here’s a breakdown of how to achieve this:

5 MUSCLE WORKOUTS TO KEEP TONED

  1. CHEST

For a tight defined chest, try a press exercise followed by a fly exercise. For instance, perform a dumbbell press followed by a dumbbell fly. To decrease the time of the workout and make the contraction on your chest more intense I like to incorporate push-ups as well.Try the bench press for 8 repetitions and right after do 12 push-ups with your feet on a stability ball to really push your body to the limit.

  2. BICEPS

For biceps it’s very important to go through the full range of motion with curls.Mix biceps with triceps to add more variety to your workout.  Performing bicep curls from different angles puts different stresses on different parts of the biceps which helps promote constant growth.I love to use drop-sets when working my biceps. This entails lifting a weight 8 times for 3 sets.

On the last set pick up a lighter weight and keep pumping repetitions out.

  3. ABS

When constructing a perfect, fit body you MUST make sure your abs are tight and equipped for posing for long hours. The exercise I like the most is hanging leg raises. They are great for developing the upper and lower abs and really test your stabilization and core.Planks are also essential as they help you keep your core firm for extended periods of time.

  4. THIGHS

When working on your thighs keep in mind shocking the muscles is important.Think of how much time you spend on your legs everyday, thus, adding the constant shock to your workouts will help keep your legs fit for posing and looking great.Something I use to shock my thighs is a 1-minute treadmill sprint in my routine of leg press, step-ups, lunges, and squats.

Cardio is also very important in keeping the body fat low so the thighs do not grow in size.

  5. LEGS

Stretching is very important when working your legs. It helps keep the muscles flexible and prevents injury. I like to use supersets (Supersets are two exercises are performed in a row without stopping)when I work my legs.I feel this really takes them over the top and adds a hard look to them. For example, I would do a set of squats followed by walking lunges with balance, then step-ups.

This makes the workouts more intense and helps when you are crunched for time.
