Hey OBVIOUS! I usually just read comments and send little anecdotes but, this is a question I have been trying to define, re-define and fine tune. I used to think a mother was a woman of substance. Soft spoken yet heavy handed. A person that can love beyond words and mere justifications. Past truth and through time. Not just a protector and nurturer, but the essence of life itself. The commencement of the word, life. That definition has much changed. I realized that a mother isn’t just a woman, fore any woman can become a mother, she is first HUMAN. Complex in all that we are. A vast tapestry of feelings, mixed emotions, memories, guilt, regrets, beliefs, pains, loses, knowledge….life. Their own lives. The one before they had us. The one that we changed, daughters and sons, planned or unplanned. A mother deals with the change, Copes with the stress and teaches all that she knows. She loves and fights so that we survive. Even if that means she doesn’t. I can go into my thoughts on the woman and human side of it, but I guess I answered the question. I do, how ever, have one of my own. How many of us have mothers, and how many of us have women or just a human?

“M” is for the million things she gave me,
“O” means only that she’s growing old,
“T” is for the tears she shed to save me,
“H” is for  her heart of purest gold;
“E” is for her eyes, with love-light shining,
“R” means right, and right she’ll always be,
Put them all together, they spell “MOTHER,”
A word that means the world to me.

A mother is one who can accept that she is not always right and does not know it all. She shows her vulnerability as much as she shows her strength. She understands that mothering is an act of learning. Everyday you learn something about your child and in turn, learn something about yourself. A mother shows understanding, demonstrates patience, builds your confidence, serves as a mentor, counselor, and friend. She compliments you even when she hates your outfit, but she won’t let you go out looking like a fool either. She is your advocate, your voice, and at times, your conscience in the back of your head silently encouraging you to make the right choice. She exudes all the characteristics that you strive to obtain. She is great, she is wonderful, and someday “SHE” will be “YOU.”

Definition of a MOTHER: A woman who shows & gives UNCONDITIONAL LOVE…No matter if you give or don’t even give it back. She makes it a point to go beyond her own boundaries just to keep her child safe. And at the end of the day doesn’t WANT for anything. She does everything on the pure motion of LOVE for her child.

Their is no definition to what a mother is because there’s a wide range of exceptions that would go against the solidifying word. Mother’s can be considered a biological title given at childbirth, or Mother’s can be the next “Superwoman” with enough strength to conquer the world. As for my Mother she is a woman of compassion, virtue, and love. She opens the door for those that slam doors in her face. She speaks honesty in situations where the word could become void. She loves even when love doesn’t seems impossible. The word “Mother” itself is great, but the actions provided are even greater.
