Bi the way…A look into a group of misunderstood people.
In a time that is more accepting than ever before of homosexual romances, behaviors and identities. Lately, we’ve been seeing a bit of bisexual innuendos in some of today’s hot TV series and movies. TV portrays bisexuality commonly by exuding sex, passion and lust. Does that really mean we are ready to accept bisexuals in real life?
Many still cannot accept what it actually means to be attracted to both sexes simultaneously. Some people may not believe bisexuals are telling the truth because they feel threatened or possibly have bisexual tendencies they fail to acknowledge. In society, the acceptance of bisexuality is hypocritical; this identity has always been approved for women rather than men. Let’s explore some of the myths and misconceptions that face the bisexual community.
“bisexual women are just having fun while bisexual men are actually gay”
Bisexuality is not real
People are more comfortable with the idea of heterosexuality and homosexuality. The debate whether sexual identity is a natural or a nurtured behavior is a big factor to this issue.
Bisexuals are simply confused
Confusion simply implies a state of instability, also suggests that bisexuality promotes doubt in a person’s identity, including the ability to settle down in a relationship.
Bisexuals are promiscuous and unfaithful
Bisexuality is being portrayed as a high libido identity wanting too much sex as if no other groups, such as gay or straight, appreciate lots of sex. What is really being taught is infidelity and unfaithfulness is a normal bisexual trait.
Bisexuals are one of the main carriers with STD
With the down low factor, bisexuals are quickly labeled as the main reason for the spread of any STD’s including HIV. Certainly the word safe sex is a sole concern of bisexuals. The fact is bisexuals shouldn’t be the liaison between sexual health and diseases that have taken the lives of millions.
Bisexuals are actually gay or actually straight
It is obvious that the male genitalia is the sole object and a focus factor here, translation: “bisexual women are just having fun while bisexual men are actually gay”. That takes us back to the old ages where men are to play a more dominant role and women a submissive role. This permits society to express sexism and misogyny as we already do. The power of male dominance is a connotation of authority and force.
The barriers against bi-phobia may come down with more understanding and acceptance of bisexuality. Whether its homosexuals, heterosexuals or bisexuals empowering voices expressing who they are will help people understand what is misconceived as a “perplexed” identity.
Educating people about bisexuality not only benefits bisexuals it also helps those that seek to understand their sexuality more deeply. But for now let’s hope this group of wonderful people are able to face the monstrosity of ignorance in their daily lives and be strong enough to reciprocate tolerance of any other entity they may encounter.

It is a good, informative read for those with an open mind and that are comfortable in their skin. I agree with the articles on many fronts. For example, it is very true that people may feel threatened or possibly have bisexual tendencies they fail to acknowledge. Sexuality goes beyond having sex in a relationship. I have a lot of heterosexual friends that are not comfortable with their sexuality; yet, cannot fathom homosexuality or bisexuality.
