The Wonder Twins

September 2010

The SACHIKA TWINS are double the pleasure and double the fun. The Vietnamese fashion designers are ready to get your attention now and have no time to wait. To-Tam and To-Nya are currently working on their biggest project to date and is showing no sign of fear or doubt. Their focus is on their fashion empire. The SACHIKA TWINS are ready to present a little of their feisty style to the fashion industry. Their question is, “Are you ready?”

Leon: Please tell us about your brand and how did this dynamic duo come about.

SACHIKA TWINS: Growing up, we always had the same interest but at different levels. I (To-Tam) was always more of the performer. I was into music and To-Nya always knew she wanted to be a fashion designer from the age of 9. She loved drawing, painting, and designing. We are very similar yet very different and we found that our differences made us stronger business partners. Like yin & yang we complement each other. We used to sing together in a live band meanwhile we both worked in fashion companies (To-Tam as the right-hand woman of the President and To-Nya as the head designer).

Our entrepreneurial side took over and we decided to move to New York (from Montreal, Canada) to join forces and knowledge, to open our fashion company and pursue our dreams. We understand each other very well. We are both very driven and ambitious hard workers who constantly motivate each other. As siblings and twin sisters, there are pros and cons to being business partners. We are very close therefore there’s a lot that is already understood from the start which is great! But on the other hand, we are so close and so comfortable with each other that we do end up fighting often because we have different opinions on many things…LOL.

Leon: Most twins deal with sibling rivalry. Does being siblings have a bad or good affect on your business?

SACHIKA TWINS: Growing up there was rivalry and there’s always competition between twins whether we like or it or not, because the surroundings always compare and they do it without realizing it creates a sense of competition. But the competition was always healthy as it pushed us both to be better. Fortunately, we were both very good in school and equally strong. Today being twins is 110% beneficial to our brand and everything we do. It is a great marketing tool. Over the years, we’ve come to realization that twins naturally receive a lot of attention and appeal to many people. We are much closer than any other business partners could be, and we share common goals and traits. We motivate each other and trust each other more than anyone else.

Leon: Who is the more creative one out of the two? Who is the more business minded individual?

To-Tam: To-Nya is the fashion designer.  She is the creative brain behind the label. I am the business woman. She handles the marketing, sales and PR department. We do overlap very often as we are both creative, entrepreneurial and business oriented. However to avoid conflict and define each other’s “territory” and department, from the beginning, we have appointed To-Nya as the final decision maker for the creative department.  I am the one who is responsible for any business related decisions. That way, there is no confusion. We have different skills and strengths and have delegated accordingly.

Leon: Do you two prefer to design for women or men?

SACHIKA TWINS: We love both equally but for different reasons. We are women and we understand the female body and how it should feel and look. It is truly rewarding for us to design for women as we do understand their wardrobe needs and concerns.  When we started designing for men and we found it absolutely fun! It’s almost like having an ideal man in our mind and designing clothes to make him look the way we want him to look.  Somehow, we do understand the male body as well (LOL) and find it very fun to design for the opposite sex.

Leon: What or who is your inspiration?

To-Nya: Business wise, Donald Trump is my inspiration. He built an empire by himself and that is very admirable. We are seeking to be the female younger versions of Donald Trump fashion-wise.

To-Tam: My dreams inspire me. When I sleep in my dreams, I’m capable of achieving anything I want to do. I can conquer the world.  I love to give and I’m so grateful for everything I have.  My dreams are wild and grandiose. When I wake up every morning, I’m so inspired. I’m inspired to take further steps to make dreams come true and my intuitive.

Leon: What is your ultimate goals as designers?

SACHIKA TWINS: As designers, we want to expand our vision to more than clothing design. We strongly believe that if you have creativity and designing skills, it could apply to many other things. We are already thinking of venturing into shoes, purses, jewelry, and accessories. Our brand should be associated with a lifestyle. Soon you will embark on the SACHIKA empire: SACHIKA music (we also sing), SACHIKA food (we grew up with our parents being chefs and being restaurants owners), SACHIKA acting (especially action movies as we take film fighting classes) SACHIKA furniture, perfumes, etc. The sky is the limit. We don’t intend to stop! It’s only the beginning…of something HUGE!

Leon: I know that you two have a big show coming up this Fashion Week? What can fashion lovers all over expect?

SACHIKA TWINS: Yes our show is going to be EPIC!!!  Our show is sponsored and presented by our dear friend and celeb stylist/jewelry designer: Alisa Maria. She’s simply amazing. We have an amazing image director: Ugo Mozie and the SACHIKA team are simply outstanding. This season, we took SACHIKA to a whole new level. We used a lot of fabrics we never used before and expanded the silhouettes of our line. We love to push ourselves to better and bigger so season after season. We’ve been told that our line just keep getting better and better so we hope this 1st showing at NYFW won’t break that pattern!

Leon: What type of music will the models walk to down the catwalk?

SACHIKA TWINS: The music will be a mix. The theme for our collection is, “The Vietnamese Princess in Paris.”  It’s kind of our story.  We are Vietnamese and were born in Paris. You will hear some Asian sound mixed with some strong current house beat to bring in the modern and strong-spirited aura of the SACHIKA woman!

Leon: If you two could SPEAK or be the face for public awareness for any good cause, what cause would it be?

SACHIKA TWINS: There are so many causes that are dear to us. We feel we would be life coaches and/or motivational speakers to the youngsters. Everything you could ever want is within your hands and you literally can do anything and everything you wish. Perception is key. Believe in yourself, have a strong mind, great work ethics and go for it! We want to inspire everyone to be the best they can be in this life!

Leon: Any last words? What do want your supporters to know?

SACHIKA TWINS: We have so much love for everyone around us! And we are so grateful to have so many supporters and great people around us. We want to thank Buddha and God for giving us the strong minds and the positivity we’re blessed with.  We are so thankful for the good fortune in our life! We believe in the laws of attraction and in karma. Good things happen to good people, so let’s be good to each other and help each other. No one can make it alone! We have the best family, friends and team! For everyone out there supporting the SACHIKA twins, we promise we won’t deceive you! You can expect the unexpected! The SACHIKA movement is spreading at the speed of light so get ready to live it all with us! :)
