Manix Anuku latest Afro Dancehall single OCEAN is sexy and mysterious with EP to follow early 2019. The Nigeria-native hopes to one-day performance at the Academy Awards and collaborate with Wiz Khalifa.
Where did you grow up? – I grew up in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, Nigeria. Also known as ‘Las Gidi’ Nigeria’s Hollywood.
Who were your musical influences? – I listened to a lot of Bob Marley, Fela, R. Kelly and Fuji music growing up. My mum played those records all the time.
How do you describe your sound? – My vibe is afrobeat mixed with sensual R&B melodies, and with a Dancehall feel sometimes. Afro R&B from space.
Tell us about your current album/ep/single. – My latest Work ‘OCEAN’ is an expression of my appreciation of my woman’s priceless nature in Manix Anuku’s unique way produced by BeatsbyEmzo and features JayRush.
Are you planning to drop a full EP or album? If so, when? – I plan on dropping an EP early next year to follow up my next singles.
How has social media helped get your music to the masses? – It has helped a lot because we are in a cyber world now and everything is happening online. Thanks to the existence of great teams like FREEME DIGITAL (@freemedigital) that help with music distribution.
As an independent artist, what are your challenges? – The main challenges are getting your work to a worldwide audience. A solid management team solves that but is hard to reach.
Dream collaboration(s)? – A Wiz Khalifa feature will be out of this world.
If you could perform at any venue, where would it be and why? – I dream of an OSCAR performance. I feel that will be a massive achievement in not just in the music industry but also in the world of art.
Outside of music, what are your other passions? – I love modeling, and the desire to become an actor is burning hotter and hotter.
