If you want to add length and volume to your hair instantly, clip-in layers are a great option. But you should wash them regularly to keep them soft, shiny, and tangle-free. If you donโ€™t clean them right, they will get dry and lose their lovely look. Read this article to learn about how you can safely wash your clip-in strands at home.

1. Gently Brush Your Pieces Before Wetting Them

Always untangle your hairpieces thoroughly before exposing them to water. Use a wide-tooth comb or soft-bristle brush to work through the knots slowly. Start at the bottom of the strands and work your way up towards the clips carefully.

Wet hair can lead to a lot of shedding and eventually damage the delicate structure very soon. Taking your time during this step ensures that the washing process goes smoothly without pulling.

2. Get a Clean Warm Water Basin

Fill a clean bathroom sink or small plastic basin with lots of warm water. Never use hot water on your hair because it will dry it out and change its look. Add a small pump of alcohol-free shampoo directly into the water and mix it well.

Hair Extensions Australia products are so much safer, as they allow you to put soap directly on strands. This gentle method keeps the hair soft and prevents heavy product buildup over time.

3. Wash Each Piece One by One

Never soak all of your hair at once. Hold the clip part in your hand and dip the strands into the warm soapy bath. Stroke the hair downwards with your fingers to clean it without rubbing. Swirling the hair around in circles will create massive knots that are impossible to brush out later on.

If possible, keep the clips dry for as long as you can to avoid rust or damage to the metal. Spend about one minute cleaning every section before moving on to the next one.

4. Apply a Deep Moisture Treatment

Rinse the shampoo out with clean water and squeeze the excess moisture out with your fingers. Apply a generous amount of rich conditioner or a hair mask from the middle to the ends. Do not put any product close to the clips, as the residue can break the bonds.

Leave the moisturising product on the strands for at least ten minutes to allow it to work. This deep treatment replaces the oils that the hair cannot get naturally from the scalp.

5. Rinse Thoroughly With Cold Water

After treatment, rinse each piece under a stream of cool running water. Cold water seals the hair cuticles and locks in all the rich moisture. There should be no slippery product residue on the strands before youโ€™re done.

Leftover conditioner can make the hair look dull, heavy, and greasy when dry. Rinse until the water runs completely clear, and you can feel clean to the touch.

6. Use a Lightweight Leave-In Spray

After washing, apply a small amount of leave-in conditioner to damp hair. This step is essential for a lightweight and bouncy finish. This gives you an extra layer of protection and keeps the strands hydrated while they dry out.

The brushing step is much easier to do, and there is a nice smell to it. Use a light formula so the fine hair strands wonโ€™t get weighed down over time. It is a very simple step to take and gives you many benefits for your hair quality.

7. Dry Your Strands Safely and Naturally

Lay wet pieces flat on a clean, dry towel and blot them gently to remove any excess water. Do not rub your hair roughly with a towel, as this can lead to split ends and frizzy strands. It is best to leave it to air dry naturally in a well-ventilated room away from direct heat.

If you have to use a hot blow dryer, your hair will dry, but the dryer will last less long. If you are stuck, put your tool on the lowest cool air setting. You’ll have smooth, healthy hair ready for the next time you try to style it.

Keep Your Hair Beautiful

Washing your clip in strands is not a hard or stressful thing to do. Be sure to only wash them after every fifteen or twenty wears to keep them from drying out. Store clean, dry pieces in a dark box or silk bag to protect them from dust. Good care of your investment means you will have beautiful hair when you need it.
