Brandblack presented their SS19 collection PopUp in New York City Tribeca District co-hosted by KINFOLK attracting the city’s streetwear aficionados and fans of both brands.
New York, NY (July 23, 2018) – David Raysse and Billy Dill of Brandblack, a footwear, and RTW Collection hosted an exclusive launch with KINFOLK at 180 the Store in Tribeca to preview the Spring/Summer 2019 Collection with a photography installation by Jack Bool. The event took place on Monday, July 23rd from 7 PM – 10 PM at 180 the Store (180 Duane Street), drinks were sponsored by VICE’s signature beer Old Blue Last and The Bronx Brewery, music was by Nas Leber and GVIJIN.
The Spring/Summer 2019 Collection “KIND WARNING” was inspired by photographs from photographer Jack Bool. His images are simple, everyday places and people but they hold a dark mystery within them. “They remind me of the movie “Blue Velvet” by David Lynch, normal town at the surface but as you go just slightly deeper you find something very dark and different,” says Brandblack’s Creative Director Billy Dill.
“We wanted to take that theme of ‘just below the surface’ and create a collection that if you look a little deeper you will find details that create something unique and unexpected” continues Dill, “The name for the collection was quite literally taken from a fire extinguisher that we found in China on our last development trip. The juxtaposition of the two words “Kind“ and “Warning” just felt perfect. It is both welcoming and dangerous, like a Lynch film, a Jack Bool photo or our current collection.”

Founded in 2013, Brandblack is a Los Angeles-based brand that seamlessly integrates athletic functionality, fashion elegance & minimalist design. David Raysse, the brand founder, comes from a long line of creatives. His father, Gilles Raysse, is one of the founding members of the fashion house KENZO, and his mother, Carole La Brie, is the first African American model to grace the cover of Italian Vogue, and his Uncle is renowned French artist Martial Raysse. He attended Pratt for design. His first job from college was at Italian sportswear brand FILA where he designed the iconic basketball sneakers the Grant Hill II and the Stackhouse II. He then became the youngest design director at Adidas. Having grown up surrounded by such creative diversity and design education it was only natural for David to combine his love of design and fashion to create Brandblack.
Brandblack is this vision come to life. The name itself is meant to invoke a sense of mystery and power. The color black has always been used to signify these traits,i.e. “Black-ops, Blackcard etc. This perfectly embodies our love of design innovation and fashion aesthetics into a singular voice. Elevating footwear and apparel with an understated performance value and a keen eye on the details is the goal for Brandblack.
