We all can appreciate at-home beauty hacks, to help minimize quarantine fatigue. With this lockdown, we’ve had to figure it out more self-care ourselves! It’s always a great feeling to know that you can do it all if you have to!
Natural Honey & Sugar Lip Scrub
I sometimes grab a pack of sugar and quickly exfoliate if I am in a time crunch and need to apply some lipstick. But this is my new favorite natural ways to get my lips super smooth!
- 1 Tsp of Brown Sugar
- 1 Tsp of White Sugar
- 1 Tsp of Honey
- 1/2 Tsp of Olive Oil
Directions: Mix all the above in a small container. Lightly scrub your lips for about 20 seconds. Wipe off with a warm, wet cloth. Your lips will feel amazing. You can store the remaining batch in your cabinet and up to a month.
Epson Salt Detox Bath
I love a good hot detox bath, who doesn’t! Easy to make and a great way to unwind and get some self-care.
- 1-2 tbsp Bentonite Clay
- 1/4 cup Coarse Sea Salt
- 2 cups Epsom Salt
- 1 cup Baking Soda
- 5-15 drops Lavender Essential Oil or any of your favorite essential oils (optional)
Directions: Drink a glass of water. Fill your tub with hot water (to your tolerance level). Add the above ingredients. Soak in the tub for 30-45 minutes, immersing most of your body. Dry off. Moisturize with coconut oil. That is it! This process helps soothe the muscles, skin irritation, and softens the skin. You will appreciate the health benefits of a detox bath.
Ombre Nail Manicure
I never go really big or bold with my manicure; however, sometimes, you want to try something new and find time figuring out how to do various ombre nails design styles.
Supplies
- Two different nail polish colors
- Clear Topcoat
- Small sponge (you only need a little bit. Cut off a section from a large sponge)
- Plastic Wrap
- Wooded Cuticle Stick or Toothpick
Instructions: Paint your nails with the lightest color. Let it dry. On the plastic wrap, pour our a little of each color right beside each other, so they touch. Take the toothpick and swirl/blend just in the area where the two colors meet. Next, take your sponge and dab it directly over this mixture and then dab the sponge directly on your nail. Keep going on all the nails. If you want to go back over the nails, to make the color more robust, make sure the first coat is completely dry first. Finish with a clear topcoat. Let dry completely.
DIY Hair Mask
It is so easy to make a simple hair mask with everyday things in our kitchen. Why don’t we do it more to save money? Well, we have time now. Here are instructions for various hair types:
All hair types
- Organic avocado (half)
- 1 tbsp of honey
Instructions: Mix the avocado and honey in a small bowl then apply to the roots of your hair first then throughout the rest of your hair. Leave on for 20 mins. Thoroughly rinse in the shower. Towel dry.
Dry Hair Mask
- 2 Eggs
- 3 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Instructions: Mix the two eggs with extra virgin olive oil and apply to hair. Leave this on for 20 mins. Thoroughly rinse in the shower. Towel dry.
DIY Honey Facial
I have grown to love my facials, but they are expensive, and right now, most of us cannot afford to get one; therefore, it’s essential to do-it-yourself.
Ingredients
- 2 Chamomile Teabags
- 1 tbsp Honey
- 1 tsp Nutritional Yeast
- Facial Brush / Fingers
Directions: Brew one 8 oz cup of the tea using the two tea bags. Remove the teabags and let cool. Stir together 1 tbsp of honey and 1 tsp of nutritional yeast in a small bowl. Add just enough tea to the mixture to make a semi-thick paste, not too watery. You want to be able to spread it on your face with a brush or fingers. Let sit for 20 minutes. Wash off with cold water. The process is calming and restores your skin. Use a towel to pat dry.
